Cantor Jen Roher joined the clergy team at Temple Ahavat Shalom in July 2010 to serve as Interim Cantor. Prior to arriving at TAS Cantor Roher served as Cantor of The Temple-Congregation Shomer Eminum in Sylvania, Ohio for five years. While there, she created many new programs, including a synagogue band, early childhood music class, home-grown Purim spiels, and a Hebrew school volunteer teacher’s aide program. Cantor Roher holds a Master’s in Sacred Music from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion School of Sacred Music, and was invested as a cantor by that institution in 2005. While in cantorial school, she served as Student Cantor at Temple Shaaray Tefila in New York City for four years. She received her Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education from The Hartt School of Music in 2000. Cantor Roher currently serves as a representative of the American Conference of Cantors on the Joint Commission of Worship, Music, and Religious Living. She looks forward to getting to know this vibrant community this year, along with her husband, Ryan Smith, and son Elijah Roher-Smith.
