Fun and Learning on Retreats
Gimmel and Dalet went to Camp Shalom
TAS High went to Camp Hess Kramer

Our Gimmel-Dalet retreat at Camp Shalom was a success. I had the opportunity to visit on Shabbat and saw our students enjoying everything the camp had to offer, weather notwithstanding. The kids spent the weekend learning about Jewish Heroes, and along the way were able to climb the rock wall, engage in team building exercises on the high ropes course, fly down the zip line, shoot arrows in archery, take part in a scavenger hunt in the Israel garden, create Chagall-like works of art, and even throw hatchets at a target. And prayer? Yeah, that too – I listened in as they chanted a ruach-filled Birkat Hamazon after lunch. The kids had a blast.

The TAS High retreat at Camp Hess Kramer was also a success. Ilysa Cooperman and the TASTY Board led interesting and innovative programs about Jewish identity. I was so proud of all of our kids; they dealt with the rain and displayed their passion for Judaism.
Bruce Udelf starting a new adventure
We say goodbye to long time teacher, Bruce Udelf who is leaving us to start a new job in Northern California. Bruce has positively impacted hundreds of students at TAS and we will truly miss him. Read the letter from Bruce below:

Dear Parents-

It is with a sense of sadness that I am leaving the TAS faculty and family after 23 plus years.  I have accepted a wonderful position as an Executive Director of a 300-member retirement community near Oakland.

I’ll be taking numerous memories, along with the knowledge that I have positively impacted the lives of hundreds of my students.  I leave my daughter, Kim, (the 2nd grade teacher) to carry on the family religious school teaching tradition.

I shall miss you.

B’Shalom,
Bruce Udelf

Welcome Sheri Eels
Our newest 3rd grade teacher
Sheri has been teaching at Limerick Elementary, part of LAUSD in Canoga Park for 15 years. She has taught Kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade (currently 3rd).  She has been a member of TAS for as long as she can remember; she became a Bat Mitzvah and was Confirmed at TAS. She has two children who have also gone thorough the TAS program. We are so excited to have Sheri as a member of our staff.
Progress Reports

We are approaching the middle of the school year and it is time for progress reports. This year we are offering Parent-Teacher Conferences for all of our Hebrew Students. Watch your inbox for more information about how to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher.

For students in all other grades, conferences are optional. Please contact your child’s teacher directly if you would like to schedule a conference.
